Von Halabuk Family Travels to Appenzell

Appenzell is a cute little Swiss village in the north-east part of Switzerland, almost walking distance to Austria and Liechtenstein. The common language here is Swiss German. Appenzell sits in the foothills just below the Alps.

There are many little shops and painted buildings. Appenzell is the home and namesake of the well known Appenzeller cheese and beer.

This is the town square (Mommy, Natalie, and Jayne are in the lower right). We stayed at this hotel our first trip to Switzerland, in their guesthouse on the outskirts of town.

It also seems to be the cow capital of the world. If you want cow stuff, they've got it.

Here are some real ones that came over to the car to moo at us.

A short drive out of Appenzell and a gondola ride straight up gets you to the Alps in the east named Santis. Here Natalie and Aunt Jayne are on the very top of Santis, it was very cold the wind was blowing like you wouldn't believe. In the back ground there is Austria.
