The Sound of Salzburg

Salzburg is, well, where the sound of music is alive in the hills (or something like that).  It is in Austria (not down under, next to Switzerland and Germany).  The story and filming of the Von Trapp family took place here.  Oh yea, a guy named Mozart was born here too.  But back to the movie, which is one of our favorites.  Natalie sings all the songs, so we had to go see the place.

Here is the gazebo used in the movie where they sing Sixteen Going on Seventeen.

Here Natalie rides the king of the jungle in front of the fountain where the children danced around singing Do Rey Me.

This is where the children were hanging off the trees when their father returned home with the Bareness, remember?

The center of town was very interesting with all the medieval buildings and lots of nice shops.  You should have seen the eggshell shop, thousands and thousands of hand painted eggshells (we got a dozen to go).

There is a castle an Archbishop built just outside of the city (across the street from the tree-lined path pictured above).  This Archbishop had a strange sense of humor.  He built the garden area with water traps.  There are several places that one would stand to enjoy the view of the ponds.  He built secret buttons that spray his guests

We also went to the obligatory Sound of Music dinner show.  A tourist trap, but we enjoyed it.  Natalie went on stage with the singers for the finale.  Dan went on stage (being dragged) to dance a traditional Austrian dance, no pictures or video.  Jeanette sat in the audience grinning.
